Default Anyone got an opinion on the TOM TOM one?

My Mrs is being offered a Tom Tom one with her mobile phone upgrade. We have a Goodmans GNAV10 unit at the mo, but you cant add to the POI file. Instead you create favourites and it warns you when you are close. This works well for speed cameras, but for example cash point (which arent in the POI database) you cant search for the nearest one as this can only be done using the POI feature.

So with the offer of the free Tom Tom one, I am wondering firslty, if you can add to the POI file or at least search nearest from stuff YOU ADD IN, not whats preloaded in.

Also, is it a good piece of kit, simple to use etc and reliable.

Another thing that bugs me about the GNAV10 is that it overheats if strong sunlights warms it up too much and it then shuts down untill it cools down. I get around this by positioning above the vent next to the instrument pod, but it shouldnt really do this for something costing £200. Will the Tom Tom do this.

Also, are the TOM TOM ones the "one" to go for, or would I be disappointed and wished I had a different model

Sorry for the long winded post, but lots of questions.

TomTom 1 is the smallest and most basic model - depends what you want from it. As it's being offered with an upgrade you probably haven't got the option of paying more and getting a higher model? (if you'd wanted to).

Go here for a review, and you'll also find reviews on the other TomTom GO range.

Is it the original TTOne or the recent slimline version2 model?.

I just bought a version2 yesterday and its a fab bit of kit.

My m8 had a TomTom 300 that I borrowed on a regular basis and loved using, they have been discontinued and replaced by the TTOne v2.

Not sure about adding to the POI's, I've only had it for a day so I would need to look that up, but I highly recommend the v2 model.

For what its worth, the salesman at Halfrauds suggested I would have been better with a Garmin 510 at the same price, he said it was a slightly better unit than the TTOne, but I wanted to stick with what I was used to using, so declined.

    Ian,

We bought the TT One and have used and abused it for about 12 months now.. updateable and yes you can add all sorts of POI to it.. The only comment i would make is that you will need the mains lead adaptor, or borrow one, as leaving it running while it updates eats the battery to a point where it has shut off on me mid-update..

it's simple to use ( which C says is a bonus for me ) and so far has been 100% reliaable and accurate... if it broke tomm, i'd have another one..
