    Default FK coilovers....yay or nay?

I need some new suspension...basically going to do the lot, was quite happy with the idea of shocks and springs but decents ones seem to be more expensive than coilovers.....

seen a few people on here have the FKs...wondering how they are rated as the appear to be quite cheap....any feedback would be appreciated.

    thanks.

As a GSi it should have the sports suspension, lowered and stiffened
When the shocks are near the end of their life the ride is horrendous
The nearside rear went on mine last year, followed a few weeks later by the offside rear spring
The front offside shock was reported as near failure during the last two MoT, along with both front springs reported as corroded, and the shock finally went at the beginning of the month
On closer inspection the nearside spring was found to be snapped right at the bottom
Now that the car is basically back on new springs and shocks the difference is amazing
The drone from tyres has also disappeared

A twangy noise was traced to the front droplinks, these were replaced
A banging noise from the rear was never traced, but at last MoT the rear antiroll bar bushes were reported as having excess play, and on replacement the banging disappeared

right....understood! but im looking at coilovers lol, theres nothing wrong with the handling as such, shocks are fine, bushes are fine, links are fine, just the osf spring snapped and i want to upgrade, slight drop nothing excessive, bit firmer, less body roll, tighter, less understeer etc...

The budget FK coilovers are garbage. i had them on my GSi for a couple of months and in that time the 2 front dampers exploded and the rears stopped working completly. managed to get a full refund on them tho. spend a few extra quid and get sommit half decent. The GSi is a heavy car and these coke can coilover kits are no use.

yea seen them on offer for £600....only i know lol about £100 cheaper than everywhere else though. intended on eibachs to be honest i dont really need adjustable ride height but a little concerned about the drop i would get as eibach state 30/30 but is that from standard? gsi is already slightly lowered so wouldnt see much differance. also tempted by 45mm springs and Koni FSDs!

thats why i asked to be honest, i knew i read somewhere about them being crap and failing quick...hmm will have to weigh up options, i guess it would be worth spending the extra and have it right with no probs, decent kit, beefier drop links, poly bushes and a strut brace should do it i think!

had my fk streets on for a year now and have found them fine but they will find any week points in the suspension and they are a VERY firm ride round town although fone on the motorway, when i can afford to put spax rsx or even kKW's on i will but for the time being they are fine

Had mine on for nearly 2 years with no issues... apart from the ride is a lil harsh for some roads.. if you do go for them..or any other ones i'd change drop links and top bearings to eliminate any knocks and twangs.
