    Default Newbie Neads Help

    Hello

New to the site and having problems with a 2.0l DTI, Plate 2004 but the engine is a 2002.

The car starts first thing in a morning and has done so since I bought it the problem started when I went back to it a few hours later it would take three or four times to start. When it did start black smoke would come out of the exhaust. I wasn't doing much mileage until recently and now I'm having real problems. It starts first time no problem in the morning, it will rev up fine when I first put my foot down, but then it wont go over 1100 revs, and black smoke comes out of the exhaust. When I rev it, it justs chugs and more black smoke comes out. When it warms up I turn the engine off and restart and it runs fine.

Recently as I did run it and the engine maintenance light came on, I had a mechanic check this out and he said it was the crank shaft warning light. He cleaned the EGR valve which he said was a common problem and switch the maintenance light off. Its still the same but the engine maintence light has not come back on. Any ideas welcome

    Thanks
    John

I'd guess it was the crankshaft sensor as that's the code that came up. I had a 2.2DTi for a while and had to replace it on that. Did he defo replace the sensor or just clean the EGR?

Moved to correct section i had a warm start problem on my old Dti and changed everything possible, In the end i changed starter motor and battery and everything was fine.
I would get codes read again and at a guess i bet it will be crankshaft sensor this is a 2 min job to do
If you still get problems after that i would check battery with multimeter

Meant to add it was an easy job. Hardest part is getting the undertray off. (If you have one)

    Thanks for responding chaps.

Would you just advise when the car wont go over 1100 revs, is this the car going into limp mode? So do you reckon if i change the crank shaft sensor that will resolve this and the black smoke problem? Just a bit worried as it sounds to easy, its been in the garage and the mechanic doesn't seem to have a clue what to do!!

    Thanks Again
    John
