    Default Car hire

I'm off to Dublin for a few days and want to hire a car for the first time. I am worried there will be some huge excess to pay when I take the car back. If the advert says unlimited Mileage for say £40 that as long as I take the car back with a full tank it will only cost the £40 or are the hidden costs they whack on at the end?
    Thanks

A long as it's a big company you should be ok , just be sure to have a good check around the car before you accept it , and document and countersign for "any" damage .

not chosen yet, i guess hertz or budget who ever has the best deal. I just want to know that if the price on the net is what i will pay. Years ago i hired a van and when i took it back they charged me £300 in mileage kinda put me off for a long time.

sounds bad, i always use europcar as i get a good discount (mod.europcar.co.uk) they have never asked to see an ID card you get unlimited mileage and for about £10 a day you can waiver any damage, so long as you return the car when planned it dosent matter if it has dents or scratches (again trust me i crashed a van last year when i moved house in the snow)

I have a contract with National
We take photographs of all vehicles before and after hire
This comprises two external photos, taken standing at the front nearside (so it shows the front and nearside) and standing at the rear offside (so it shows the rear and offside), and one photograph of the instrument panel (so it shows the fuel and mileage)
Where there is damaged specified in the outgoing form, we take photos of this

We also return vehicles full (hired full to full)
When filling for the last time, fill just to the top, not all the way
This will then give you enough to get from the petrol station to their premises without affecting the full status
Keep all receipts for petrol, especially this last one

    As for hire car prices
    £40 is that per day?
You will also need to add those hidden costs, including CDW
You can however car cover their hire car under your own insurance, but for short term hires this is typically more expensive

i used eurocar at the start of year they went out with me to inspect the car just keep a really good eye on the defects on car and if you spot them tell them before you sign mine had skuffs on alloys and she missed it on inspection but i didnt
i never went for the added damage cost but thinking about it i was looky i didnt damage the car i i would of lost the £200 deposit i had to put down

i was hopping for a focus ended up with a astra sxi and it was a pile of sh*t gave me a sore back and was the slowest car i ever have drove on a motorway it had unlimited milage as i put a lot on it and never got charged
if i had to hire again i will pay a bit more and go for a much bigger car
and not astra size or smaller

I have to say i have had a few cars like that from them, i know enterprise always rent out cars that are of decent power on the other hand. I drove a 1.8 pet insignia and i was ready to kill myself on the journey from plymouth to edingburgh uncomfortable and gutless, on the plus side they did **** up last year and charged me £95 (should have cost over £300) for 5 days hire including damage waiver for a automatic galaxy i thought i was driving a bus! lol
still saved me a fortune and they honoured the price that i was quoted without quibble.
