2.2 DTI engine temperature

What temperature should the temperature gauge read when at normal running temperature? Mine reads 85*C and takes ages to warm up in this colder weather. Suspect it needs a new thermostat but don't want to replace it and it make no difference. Dealer says the thermostat is 92*C which would mean the needle in the middle which i would expect. Car runs ok and has been like it since i bought the car 4 years ago.

I think this is absolutely normal... Unfortunately yes, it takes ages to this engine to warm up when interior heating is on. My experience is, when interior heating is on and outdoor temperature is for example -10 it takes nearly 20 kms (!!) for motor to warm up... but when heating is off it takes only approx. 4-5 kms !!! - and after then I switch on the heating... buuut a 12V heated seat cover is a "must have" for this "operation".

sounds normal, mine can take a good 5 miles, but also depends I think if you are in free moving traffic or putting along at 5mph.

Mine tends to sit between 85-88 when at speed, but sitting in traffic it gets as high as 97C before the fan kicks in.

I also torque app for my phone and get live readings from the ECU, which correlates with the temp gauge, so I wouldn't worry.

Hello guys! Well, yesterday I've installed this engine preheater and I have to say it's worth it, especially in morning on cold start -- oops there is no cold start! It keeps your engine temperature between 50-60 (there is a built-in thermostat in the preheater). You can also switch on the interior heating but make sure you have your accumulator in good condition... mine is a 85Ah Varta Silver, 4 years old but still without issues... I used to switch on the fan-heating (with ignition on of course) but "only" for 10-15 mins but its enough to heat up the interior...

Thanks for the feed back, ill spend my money on a warmer coat then instead of a thermostat

£10 for the thermostat. Blank off three of the bumper grills with plastic card and fix with cable ties.

Mine runs at about 85-86 in this weather, and about 89-90 in the summer.

Takes about 5-6 miles to reach full temperature.

Stat opens at 92 degrees.
