    Default hids and the mot

called the technical guys at the n.ireland mot headquarters and asked are the hids a mot failure after jan 1st, he said all hids must have headlight washers or jets to clean the headlights or they will fail, i was thinking of putting the hids in but if you have to do all that extra work and expense and not knowing if its possible to fit washers on a 07 facelift vectra i think i,ll just have to eat more carrots

I really wanted HID's fitted, however there are some alternatives that have been mentioned although for the life of me I can't remember what they were...It will be possible, just at a cost. Wonder how much extra all of that costs?

Its the leveling that expensive. On the estate you can just change the shocks.

I thought it was just factory xenons that had to have washers? Find yourself a friendlier tester

Oh this is well debated topic already isn't it?!

Xenons will need auto levelling and washers regardless of factory fit or retro fit shortly....
as Kev says,.. find a friendly MOT tester!! I really don;t think Vecs will pose a noticeable issue having the projector lenses. only reflector lenses and aftermarket fit will stand out like a sore thumb!

Friendly MOT stations are the way forward...

My wifes Astra VXR has angel eyes (which have projector lenses) and hids fitted and when I spoke to him about the changes he said not to worry and that the car will pass as the light scatter is fine in his opinion... Bold for him to say as long as he doesnt get checked!

They can pass on a projector headlight this year, and should fail next year.
As said friendly mot station is the way forward

According to the AA, an advisory from 1st January until 31st March next year, fail thereafter. Same goes for other additions like warning lights IIRC.
