Default Bodyshops? Do they really care!

    Just a little moan really,

For those that remember when I picked the Signum up they had not refurbed the wheels and had only done 1, well went in on Monday to have the passenger side ones done, but the dealership had only authorised for these 2 not the remaining one to be done, anyway that's another story,

They had it 8am Monday and I picked it up Tuesday 4.30pm bit dark so hard to see everything, looked this morning and not only had they refurbed the wheels (badly) but I found I also now have silver calipers and pads and on part of the tyre!!!!!!

Looks like I may be painting my calipers earlier than I thought!!!

On another side work colleague had an accident in his Renault Scenic came back from bodyshop and guess what, rear door panel hanging off, grease/oil marks all across the top of it, front A pillar trim has a gap between that and the dashboard and more grease marks and the front wing they fitted has a big gap between front bumper and wing.

Are all bodyshops like this? Or are there some good ones out there ?

Sorry my little rant is over now.

I had a shunt up the back a few weeks back. When I went to collect the car (Estate) the 2 reflectors that fit in the lower bumper were missing! " great big holes where they should be. When I ponted it out the guy looked at me and said "yeah we know they are missing, but they were missing when you brought the car in".

I didn't know whether he was trying to be funny. I asked if the bumper had fallen off in the shunt would they not have fitted one of those either? Jumped in the courtesy car and drove off after telling him to stop p155ing me about & sort it.

My car went into a Dealers in Rainham, Kent to have one side sprayed. It come back worse than when It went in as it wasnt blended well at all. So back it went and come back OK. Not a great job. Cost the company that scratched it over £1000 for about a 4 inch scratch!!!

I haven't been to a single garage yet that hasn't damaged or ******ed somthing up! The latest attemp was shocking and I don't want to go into details but I'm getting the replacment parts from them and doing the work myself to avoid further damage...

I've got a small inependent bodyshop on a local industrial estate. A 1 man show, but he looks about 100 and the work he does is just perfect. I think it's probably all he's ever done, and he really takes pride in turning out cars that are beautifully repaired.

Wouldn't ever trust a car to a main stealer.

Not wanting to tempt fate, how easy is it to take a car to a garage of your choice for repair rather than the nominated accident repair centre the insurance companies (be it mine Direct Line, or the third party) work with.

There are a couple of quality shops in the area who I know people use if they want the best treatment/service for motors. Even if it did need to go to a dealer I know some are better than other.

    Hi,
Depends on the insurance company as to how much persuading you have to do, in my case, last two incidents I took the car to my choice not the insurance nominated one (woudn't trust my push bike to them !) You just have to tell them up front that is what you are going to do and don't take no for an answer. Good luck
