    Default Caliper Painting

Sorry for posting what's probably a stupid question, but here goes anyway...

How much of the caliper do I actually paint? Are there any parts I need to avoid getting paint on?

    Cheers

I painted as much as was visible but make sure you don't get any on the hoses and the braking surfaces (Pads and disks). You could do the backs of the pads to make the caliper look bigger but next time you change ya pads your back to square 1 so Ididn't bother.

    Here's a couple of pics: -

    And

We just painted the actuall caliper both inside and out

Best try and find somewhere you can get all 4 wheels done at the same time.......save a LOT of time and mucking about even if you have to hire somewhere it would be well worth it.

    And another one then.....

Do you paint them in situ, or remove them first?

    Hi Paul,

It really is more bother than it's worth to remove them, just do them in situ, also the callipers in the pics got 3 coats

Is it a special 'calliper paint' that you used?

you can use the specialist caliper paints avaliable from the likes of helfrauds.. but i've had great results with both hammerite and smoothrite. that paint still takes the temperature that the brakes produce..
