    Default Service light question

    Hi guys,
Problem with my service light. (car with spanner on top) it comes on for roughly 3 mins everytime I start the car from cold.

Think there may be a problem with the engine temperature gauge. Sometimes doesn't register heat in the engine when there clearly is.

Could they be linked? Car is 1.9cdti signum '06

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    G

That's not a problem, that is the way it is supposed to work
This is a notfication that service is due within 500 to 1000 miles
Once ths reduces to 500 miles the light will stay on
Suggests your car is on ECO Flex servicing

more likely the fact that you have 1 or more glow plugs not working corectly if at all.

get it pluged in and im 99% sure it will give P0380 code

Thanks for the replies guys, it's all useful to know. My Signum is the 150bhp model. In the past the service light has come on before, but it would have been on constantly (until I reset it using the pedal trick)
Never seen it do this before.

On the possibility of a glow plug not working, would it not make the car hard to start or drive badly? It seems to be running fine.

    Again thanks for any help.

Not yet as the other 3 are more than capable of starting the the engine but if another one failed then you'd need to replace them. It may be a plug just on it's way out

I have that code , along with 'Glow plug circuit B not present' on my DTI Zaf, and the Service light too. I still need to sort it but have been told it's glow plugs. Its done 75k so is due a change anyway

Thanks John, think I might look into purchasing a code reader. I take it if you were going to replace one plug, you'd replace them all?

Surprised no one has mentioned it yet - that's not the service light.

Service light is either an oilcan with a spanner through it, or the word "INSP" in the odometer display.

The light you're referring to is the engine electronics, & transmission electronics (if you have an autobox) warning light.

    rolleyes

    Cheers Dave,

Your right actually thinking about it. Its the 'INSP' which I have cleared in the past.

But is the generally opinion that it is glowplugs still ?
