Default REVIEW: A1 Clutches, Tipton, West Midlands Clutch and DMF fitted for £650

    Hi all,

I would just like to post up a recommendation for A1 Clutches, Tipton, West Midlands.
    Details here http://www.a1-clutches.co.uk/

following on from another member on here I chose them to fit my Clutch and DMF. The total cost is £650 inc parts and labour and only takes less than 5 hours if all goes to plan. They use LUK and Sachs item so the same as the original fitment. I can not recommend them highly enough, the service I had was second to none and far cheaper than the VX dealers.

I dropped my car off at 8am and was on my way home at 1pm.

I had the following work carried out, details here: http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...10#post1451210

big thanks to Rick at A1 Clutches for sorting and the fitter/s!

Just to add to the post above, I've 2 neighbours who have used A1.
Both have been delighted with the quality of work and price.

so is that clutch + DMF = £650 or is that just the fitting price as you supplied the clutch ?

That price is all in for the standard DMF and Clutch.

Rik took the cost of the Clutch off my bill as I supplied my own.

Sounds like a good company, But is there a better dmf cos the original type is obviously crap & I wouldn't want to spend good money putting the same type back in!, So as anyone got recommendations or experiences with a better type?, PS they seem OK if you drive like an oap but start to deteriorate when given stick (that's what sports diesels are made for).

My DMF (138K) has been fine and I give my car loads of stick. I think its more down to driving style causing failures.
There is rumour of an uprated sport DMF being produced. Basically I think they are going to weld it all up buy I believe it will end up having knock on effects to drivability

for those of you who live further south i would recommend Universal clutch in Luton. Had my 2.0dti supplied and fitted with a new clutch, dmf and slave cylinder kit on tuesday at a cost of £650 all in. They even topped up the gearbox oil which was a bit low and secured my exhaust heat shield which was hanging on by one corner.
The boss khalid showed me the worn parts- dmf was grinding itself away into dust, csc was leaking and clutch plate was scored and near death. He also showed me around his stock area and showed me the parts they use- which are all luk or sacs depending on what was originally fitted.
Had a slight issue with a leaky air pipe which took 2 mins to sort out once khalid diagnosed it.
They do the 1.9 for 695 but i think you may get it for slightly less if you.re cheeky enough. My car feels great now so despite the financial pain- i'm very happy :-)

There are quite a few members of the 75/ZT forum that have used A1 too to replace clutch/slave cylinders at a much less price than most other garages (£350 compared with £500+) - virtually all the comments have been positive, with just the odd ones with clutch judder issues after, but their aftercare is very good too.
