    Smile Vectra Life Span

What would be(how long is a piece of string) the life expectancy of a Vecta C 1.8? I bought my 55 plate 18 months ago on 57k and it's now done 118k. Serviced to the book and never thrashed, any ideas?

Hard to say one may go on for ever another with same history only a few miles more.

But both would keep going if you put money into them to replace whatever needed it.

1.8 is as reliable as they come. Fresh oil changes every 10K max(I prefer every 6 months, none of this 20K pish), and timing belts every 50-60K and its only really valve stem oil seals or the rings that will let her down more than likely. TBH the F17 gear box is more likely to give up the ghost than the engine.

After 14 years the rust gets the better of everything and it's time to scrap.

Some old cavaliers mk2 about but how much would you want to spend on new panels, there cheap enough to buy now so cheap enough to buy another later.

The life expectancy is the point to which the car becomes uneconomic to maintain and run
On my previous 1998 Vectra B SRI 2.0 this was 140K miles at 6 years old
The previous service advised the front suspension frame and sub-frame bushes were nearing the end of their life
I had a local mechanic inspect them as well, he confirmed this and held three fingers up after pricing up the job
Both quotes were near on £2500 so decided enough was enough

With modern day rust proofing.......I assume the body shells are galvanized?! Lifespan shouldn't be an issue. Not like the Vauxhalls of old!
