Default good police service or bad??

about 8.30 last night i got a phone call from the police. i thought it was about some gear that was stolen from my van at work on friday, but nop, it was because my 1 yr old had been playing with the phone and called 999 without us knowing. my problem is they said they recieved the call from a small child which they could hear shouting and screaming at 6.30, TWO HOURS earlier. they tried to ring several times but the baby had switched the phone off. when they finally got hold of us by phone they asked if everything was ok before they sent a patrol round. Now to me this makes sense, but 2 Hrs later. if someone was hurting the baby (heaven forbid) surely after the first unsuccessful attempt to contact us they should have sent someone round as a matter of urgency.
anyway thats my rant over for the year!!

There should have been a copper beating your door within seconds if you ask me.

We called the Police to a gang of scummers on the estate behind us at our old house. 5 days and a letter to the Hampshire Chief Constable later, someone came around.

You would hope that the police would come round as soon as they were unable to contact you via the phone, especially nowadays, but unfortunatly i think that the police force is stretched at the best of times, i guess its a case of when they have time.

iv had this happen to me with my other mobile phone, my missis phoned the police 999 job to the kids where screaming because her brother was starting at her "he was drinking stella" and the call got cut off .
it was the 999 operator that phoned me asking what happened and ask where i was i drive from work 35 miles away and got there befor the police did
the police didnt even want to look to find her they just pi??edoff without talking to her by that time she had gone to her friends next door the police didnt know that nor did i

everything was ok but without looking for her and the kids how would they know that
they didnt even get out there car

i know what your going to say they have a hard job and for some of them they do a great job ,but there is getting more and more lazy b?sta?ds that want an easy job

i know to many things this new police force gets up to and it need to get back to the old days
they really did do a good job back then 100% for the job

TBH mate im not sure how i stand with this cause it COULD have been alot worse if it were a serious situation. The police 'have' to read between the lines or else they would be knocking on everyones doors cause the amount of prank/accidental calls must be HUGE..so i canny give you an answer buddy

The police in general do a good job for being so overstretched IMO i totally agree that there should be more bobbies on the beat so more money into NHS and police and it will make me happier....you reading Mr Blair...err sorry Mr Bush

i agree they were right to try and contact us to check it was/wasnt a crank call, but what if i was home beaten up and had managed to ring 999 before passing out, and all they could hear was baby crying in background, surely after not being able to contact us they should have sent someone round. i could've been dead in 2 hours. i agree the police have a hard job and the majoruty do it well, but lives could be lost if they do this everytime
