Default Advice needed please. car doing my head in.........

    Ok. Car is 1.9cdti 120bhp Z19DT engine.

Just had new Dual Mass flywheel and 3 piece clutch fitted to this car and it has developed starting problem. Prior to fitting DMF and clutch, it was starting at first turn of the key.

Car now starts with a judder after about 3-4 cycles of turning ignition off and on with lot of white smoke. I have observed the spanner with car light stays on (not flashing) when ignition is switched on and have assumed it could be the glow plugs but after leaving the ignition on for 5mins at different times for the plugs to warm, spanner light still stays on. The spanner light goes off instantly (just like the EML) once the car starts (this makes me think it's probably not glow plugs as I ill expect it to stay on for some secs or minutes of driving) and car drives and starts ok for rest of the day till left for about 6-8hrs. Also ABS light comes on and off briefly (2-3secs) while trying to start the car.

I have read somewhere that when the flywheel goes, it affects starter motor (is this true and will this cause EML to stay on at turn of key even without trying to start the car?). Also read in the vauxhall manual that if spanner light illuminates in Z19DT and Z19DTH, this indicates water in the diesel fuel filter.

I have checked the battery and it reads 12.5V. Not had the chance yet to test glow plugs due to their location on the 120bhp.

Could this problem still be due to glow plugs or starter motor or diesel fuel filter or any other thing? Any suggestions before I start looking for the wrong things please? Thanks.

sounds to me like you may have an injector or injector seal at fault, hence the judder & white smoke

    Default TECH2. Aberdeen

Following on from the symptoms above, I have replaced all four glowplugs but the car with spanner light is still on and car still struggles to start from cold. Can anyone please recommend me a garage with tech2 in Aberdeen area or environs apart from the dealer. The dealer wants to charge £122.40 just to plug the car to tech2.

See if any members have Vaux Com in your area m8. £122 is a rip off, max you should pay is £60 and I think that's expensive.

Going out on a limb but it sounds to me like whoever done the fix me have disturbed/damaged the glow plug relay - but I'm not 100%. I say this because the glow plug relay sits on the battery box between the battery box and engine which is the clutch area.

For the clutch and DMF to be replaced the battery and battery box has to come out. Either they have forgotten to plug the relay back in (I suspect) or it is now defunct for what ever reason.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have unplugged the glow relay on the CDTi and plugged it to my DTi to test it and it starts up the dti fine so seems relay is still ok.

Check all the wiring for the relay too on your motor.

Ok thanks. Will check the wiring out tomorrow when there is light. Did you mean starter motor?
