    Default Aircon Query....

I had my aircon re-gassed this afternoon (Vectra 1.9 CDTi SRi 150) and this is the results on the print-out

    Recovery - 26ml, 390g.
    Vacuum - 30 min., 15 min., 21 mbar
    Oil - 36 ml
    UV - 5 ml
    Refill
    740 g.

I was told that there was no leakage and that the condenser was ok.

I tried the aircon on my drive home and didn't think it went cold (or at least any colder than the outside air temp).

I trust the garage as I have used them for a long time now. Is there something else that could be causing the aircon not to work properly or is it a case of getting back in touch with the garage again?

    Thanks
    Michael

Hi I had my air con regassed and tested and the vauxhall dealer said it was ok about 4 days later when i needed the air con no cold air so I had a look at the condenser and it was leakin so I brought a new condenser and new seals and took it to be regassed and it's been ok. The condenser is a comman problem with the vectra just take the bumper off and have a look my condenser was leaking from the back you could see the green dye on it. It will cost about £140 + regas to do the job your self and about half and hour to do the job

    Hi
I had mine regassed in may as it was not working at all
the main dealer i took it to charged me £78 to do the job and said there were no leaks but if it leaked out in a reasonable amount of time they would repair the fault and give me a full refund
Move on to the middle of september and the aircon fails again the main dealer had the car in found the condenser to be leaking replaced it and gave me a full refund
I am rather fortunate that the car is still under manufactureres warranty

I was told the condenser was ok as there was still some gas in the system?

    What was the outside temperature?
Below 5'C the air con system does not operate

    What was the engine temperature?
On mine the air con does not blow fully cold until about after 10 minutes of driving

Just because there was some gas remaining does not mean the condenser is intact.

Once the system pressure drops below a set value the low pressure switch kicks in to isolate the system and reduce further damage - however ther way it was explained to me, it is entirely possible to have gas remaining on one 'side' of the system - something to do with low pressure 'side' and high pressure 'side'.

Assuming you had the 'cold blast' demonstrated before leaving the garage, for it to have lost that much performance just by the drive home I'd be thinking of either a rapid loss of gas causing low pressure shut-down or as suggested by M8 the outside temperature being below +5c where the system is disabled.

So given the recovered gas is around half the full charge, I'd have my money still on the condenser being snafu.

I didn't have any "cold blast" demonstration, unfortunately I just found out it wasnt working after I had left the garage. I rang them yesterday and they are going to have a look tomorrow. Normally when your turn the ac on there is a bit of a lull in the acceleration when the motor kicks in, this is not happening so i wonder if this is a clue?

Car was back at garage yesterday getting some new tyres and while it was there they had a quick look to see if they could see why the aircon isn't working. Nothing was coming up on the disgnostics check so they have asked if I can drop the car back in some time and leave it with them for a few hours - they want to try and trace why the power isn't getting thru. Dropping it in this friday - hoping its not going to cost me a fortune but i'm not convinced!

Compressor is kaput! Been quoted £450 for a new one fitted. Out of curiosity i called vx, they quoted £690 for a recon one! haha....
Just trying to decide if I should bite the bullet and get it done. I know if I don't do it it will bug me that a feature on the car is not working!
