Yesterday was the first day since buying that I've really appreciated the features of my Vectra Elegance. I've been on a long weekend and yesterday was the last day of it
The day started off with a few short journeys around my current home town of Münster in the north western part of Germany. Nothing too taxing but the car is refined, quiet and relaxing, most unlike my mother-in-law who was sitting in the back at the time.
Unphased by this, it was time for a blat down the A43 Autobahn to Dülmen then the B58 across to the border town of Weeze to drop the aforementioned inlaws off at Niederrhein airport for their trip back to Glasgow Prestwick. Thoroughly impressed with the performance of the 2.2DTi with 4 people and a boot full of luggage, I arrived home in time to get a phonecall from a colleague who was stuck in Amsterdam after being bumped off his flight by KLM.
He duly got on a train to Enschede, a town just across the border in Holland and I set off along the speed camera testing zone that is the B54 to pick him up and bring him back. Cruise control set at 100 kph and the Vectra is humming along at less than 2000 rpm and drinking a gallon of Derv every 60 miles or so.
I get to the train station at a very cold Enschede at 2245 and receive a text message saying that the train is delayed and won't be there until 2359. Popped into Burger King and got the obligatory Whopper meal and then I did something I never normally do. I sat in the back of the car to keep out of the cold. If you've never done this, you need to try it, its so comfortable and cosseting. A different league from the back of my SEAT Leon.
Anyhoo, I got back home at around 0115 this morning. The car performed faultlessly throughout the day as per usual and managed to squeeze 290 miles from half a tank of diesel. Not bad considering the varying driving conditions.
I've covered 2700 miles in the last 6 weeks and can't rate this car highly enough. Its refined, full of toys, economical and more than gutsy enough for anything I demand of it. To anybody reading this who is thinking of buying a Vectra C and especially one of the diesel models, get a test drive, they are great cars.
