    Default 245/45/R18's on Sports Tourer

Just bought a Sports Tourer 160 SE Nav auto and its fitted with 18" wheels & Bridgestone Potenza's. The road noise inside is dire - much louder than my 152k mile Signum Elite . Anyway, Vaux want £856 for x4 17" wheels (ouch). Before I do something daft, has anyone got a Tourer with 18" wheels & tyres they are happy with? Appreciate its subjective, but its noisy by any measure!
    Cheers.

My old man has got one with 19's and that's fine. I don't know the profile of his tyres but they look like rubber bands so it's not like he has some high profile tyres on it. Have you checked things like tyre pressures? Maybe it's something that Vauxhall build into automatics to try and encourage people to buy cars with real gearboxes! lol!

Thanks. If the 19's are fine then that's encouraging and would point to the tyres themselves although the problem may be an autobox optional extra........ . What make of tyres are on your old man's car? The pressures are fine. I tried 'eco' and that did not help and made the ride too firm. Now back to normal.

Thanks Hammy. Does all seem to point to the tyres. The car's only done <9k miles so the Bridgestone's will have to continue to annoy me for a while

Thanks S Zigmond. So, maybe the question is 'do others feel this tyre has a noise problem on this car?'

Looks like I could have found the answer. After much research I checked the tyres for 'heel & toe' wear and hey presto! The rear's in particular are quite noticeable. For those that don't know about this condition it seems to be where the tread blocks wear at uneven heights - front edge to back edge as you look at the tread side on. Bridgestone Potenza's get reported a lot on various forums for this but are not the only make. Could be due to alignment issue. Causes excessive tyre noise like you were driving on knobbly tyres.

Now I have something to present Vauxhall with. Definite alignment check needed and will be asking them for some tyres too. Will post an update, but won't be for a week or so as away on business.
    Cheers
