insurance qoutes

ive just been on line to check my credit report and noticed a few company that have been running a check on me when i looked at it closly their insurance qoutes ive been getting.
so my question is
if insurance qoutes go on the make on model of car and the area you live in and job you do then why are they doing a credit search on us

and is it possable people who are getting really high qoutes for the lower power cars is it just they have bad credit or doesnt it matter

as over the years i have drove 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.5, 3.2, and the insurance always comes out around the 700-800 mark with the exception of my last mistake a renault scenic which was about £500

Simply to place you as an individual
(although im sure there will be other uses)

i wish i would of known that they did a credit check on every insurance qoute as it apears on my credit report as a negative factor
and the other week i did about 10 different insurance qoutes on different cars to see if we could run 2 cars and still aford to live

this is what it states on my report about negative factors
Having multiple searches (applications for credit) in a short period shows that you may be credit hungry, that your existing credit is not sufficient for your needs and that you might be being declined by lenders. As searches get older they will have less of an effect and fewer searches in a 6 month period is likely to be viewed more positively by most lenders
and thats just from going on go compare putting different reg numbers in to see what would be a cheap 2nd car to insure
