Default Talk me out of buying another Mondeo please!

I used to have a 2002 Mondeo 1.8 LX, and now have a 1998 Mondeo ST24, and I am looking at getting something sensible again while I keep the ST for track days etc

Currently considering a Vectra C up to £2k, ideally in SRI spec.

There seem to be loads of older 2.2 models about for that price at reasonable mileages with good histories, but I keep being drawn back to buying another mk3 Mondeo! Probably because my last one was brilliant, but I really do need to branch out a bit more.

What sort of things should I look for in the Vectra C? And what would be the best engine in that price braket?

    Thanks

Sorry should have said - probably a petrol. I can't be doing with all the issues that go with them. That said, I get the impression that there is a fair bit of exaggeration going on.

I just don't want a massive bill if a turbo goes bang or the clutch and flywheel need replaced.

for a given price you will get a much newer lower milage 1.8, two years seven months ago I wanted a diesel, but only had £3000 cash, found a 1.8 sxi for 3 grand, on 50,000 miles full service history, the same miles and year for a diesel 150 would have cost £4500/5000, I was complaining to a mate a 150 owner, that I had spent 400 quid on discs/ bushes/stat/ wiper linkage, he bought his 150 at the same time I bought my 1.8, he has spent £1800 on repairs, repairs not servicing,,, my 1.8 has averaged 38.7 mpg for the near on 30,000 miles I have done in it, mates 150 has averaged 47 mpg, as for performance yes the 150 is quicker every where, but at a cost, and to be honest would you realy notice .7 of a second difference 0-60 mph time, I do like driving the 150, but if I went back in time would still get the 1.8. NOTE..I now do less than 10,000 miles a year. so its a no brainer for me

I quite like the new shape ones!

But the older ones don't look nearly as good as a Veccy SRi - especially the XP kit version!

Thanks for the info so far guys, will sit down and have a proper look at that thread this evening

It would probably be another mk3 Mondeo, ideally a Zetec or a Zetec S. The only complaint I had of mine was the wind noise, and I hear this is much better in the Vectra?

i was just about to mention the wind noise on the mondeos i test drove a 52 plate 2.0 zetec 5 door hatch i really liked it but i didnt buy because of the wind noise

so i bought the 1.8 o4 vectra instead alot quieter on the motorway just make sure you buy the right tyres this stops the dronning.

I think the vectra is far better inside than the ford and better built.

i had a 2.0 zetec on a 51 plate (mk3) have to agree was noisy on motorway handled good at lowish speeds but for a 2.0 was a bit gutless

also had a mk2 mondeo v6 ghia x really nice car all the toys just didnt pick up as good as a v6 vectra (im comparing 2.5 mondeo to 2.5 vectra b not a c) and seemed to drink more
