Default Fuel filter replacement - Y30DT.

Following M8Internet's post in another thread http://vectra-c.com/forum/showpost.p...27&postcount=6, I feel that now is a good time to replace my fuel filter.

But how? As Haynes doesn't cover this, I'd be working blind. I know it's a paper type insert but can anyone give me a step by step guide as to how it's done, especially the bleeding operation after the new one's in.

Looking forward to any pointers .

Mate it is a 5 min job, the black case with the filter in is at the back right of the engine. There is a Allen bolt in the top which you take out and remove the lid to reveal the filter.
The main concern is upon re fitting, fill to the top with diesel and fit lid really tight, then again pour diesel into bolt hole before re fitting bolt.

That's is that, I have changed mine twice and second time took me 5 min start to finish

I thought both of these were quite reasonably priced . http://www.eurocarparts.com/fuel-filter

Don't know what the difference is in quality between the two though.

The expensive one is the oil filter

Replacing the fuel filter is not a big issue, but I would suggest you do it with a warm engine.
Remove the filter housing and clean it out with a detergent of your choice, flush with water or whatever and wipe it dry (make sure to get all the water out). This was recommended to me by the Opel garage I use - you will see black deposits of dirt at the bottom. After successfully cleaning the housing, refill it with fresh diesel (or two stroke oil!) put the new filter element in and the lid on. The engine should start quickly when it does bury your foot to the floor (that's why it the engine has to be warmed up) to draw the fuel.

    Good luck.

Hi Celes, just read your post AFTER I changed the filter. All went well apart from when I took the lid off, derv peed out all down to the bottom engine cover . I didn't disconnect the hoses on the lid but managed to hold the lid out of the way whilst I filled the chamber with derv.

Started first time, then cut out. 30 secs of cranking (engine was warm ) and engine fired up and ticked over nicely.

Old filter looked OK. I thought a change of filter might have helped my misfire at small throttle openings but problem's still there. Guess I'll have to start another thread .

No worries mate next time you get the filter out, remove the housing too and give it a clean

These engines are simply **** (or in case it gets censored, cow excrement). Misfire here, misfire there. New filter - doesn't help, new SCV's - don't help, new injectors - don't help. I'm slowly fed up with it...I managed to reduce misfires to a minimal, but I can sometimes still feel it.

So where do you think I should start .

I was going to spray a can (or two) of Wynn's EGR3 into the motor and go from there.
