confused Buyer in need of advice please

    Hi all,

I'm looking to get a Vectra 1.9cdti with the 8v 120bhp engine (probably a 2007 model). I'm not too fussed about the extra performance of the 150bhp version, and prefer the idea that the 8v might be more reliable.

However the question I have is what gearbox is fitted to the 120bhp version? Is it the F40 box or the M32? I believe the M32 is used in the Astra and by all accounts is not very strong. The F40 is apparently much stronger so I'm hoping it's this one?

Just in case I do fancy a bit more performance, how well does the 8v engine improve with a remap?

and lastly (sorry)!... anyone know how long the DPF lasts on an estate before it needs to be replaced? I gather they are very expensive, so I might stick with a hatchback are problematic.

    Any advice much appreciated

Get the 120 and have the EGR and DPF mapped out and some more power at the same time

For my tuppence worth, it all depends how you use the car. Mine's a Signum CDTi 150 with the DPF. Some say if you're doing short start/stop journeys then diesel engines with a DPF are a no, no. Me well I do just that, short journeys but with some long motorway cruises at regular intervals, say every 3 weeks or so. They need to get hot on a long cruise to clear the soot build up etc. I've not had any problems so far and I don't know how long they last (DPF) but I won't worry over it.

Incidently did you see the "Watchdog" programme around 2/3 weeks ago. It featured this very subject, but about smaller diesels being used as just town cars. They were throwing up all sorts of faults to do with the cars sooting up (DPF I guess) The owners complaining, why market them as a ideal town car and this happens. Experts told them they need to be given a good thrashing (the car, not the owner) now and then to clear the build up that happens with just pootling around town.

Sure someone will correct me if I'm talking a load of sh+te.

    Mick

I have mine for 2,5 yrs and I still love it. Right, 120 cdti needs to be remapped. You can feel lack of power, especially with 3-4 people on board. I've remapped mine one year ago and trust me, it's not the same engine. It's a Bosch software and I managed to obtain 156 hp and 359Nm of torque. Enigine is very reliable and as yet I had no probbs with it after remap after about 12k miles.

P.S. Characteristics is in Polish, sorry
