    Default Help! Dash rattle!

    Hi all,
the centre dash strip (the long piece with the aluminium strip on it) rattles so much its doing my head in. the car is a 58 plate SRi.
If i place my finger on the strip near the cd player / fuel computer it seems to stop so im pretty sure it is the strip that is at fault.
How do i remove it and also does anyone know how to fix the rattle permanently? I'm sure i recall someone on here taliing about a permanent fix involving some sticky strips of foam and adjusting the spring clips but im not an expert on vehicle trim and i am a bit reluctant to mess about with my car incase i damage anything. Some sound advice would be really appreciated.
    Cheers.

I took mine off when I put my sat nav in.

I found that if I opened the glove box and gave the trim a good hard tug it came away. You can feel the underside of it from there. The first heave was pretty tough and you have the feeling you'll snap it!

After that I just pulled it away at small intervals.

Thanks for the advice - so am i correct in thinking that I need to pull the trim away from the glovebox side first? Basically start on the left and work towards the steering wheel side?
Also are the clips at the top or bottom of the trim?

That's the way I did it, away from the glovebox as that's where you can get to it. The clips spaced out along the dash trim, not to many clips if I can remember.

Search out changing the head unit for cd70 .... Might be some pics. That's where I got my info from.

    I'll have a nose

Here is the tip I used..

    What you do is..

Feel across the top of the glovebox, for a recess in the bottom of the rounded trim strip.

Then you pull this trim strip towards the rear of the vehicle (carefully).

It is held in place with spring clips..

Many thanks. I'm going to try and resolve this at the weekend as it really is becoming a pain. I have been a big fan of the SRi Veccy since I bought my first one nearly 3 years ago but its really testing my devotion to the car. For gods sakes the current one is just coming up 3 years old!

Well its not the dash strip thats causing the problem!
Checked all torx screws, all tight and none missing. Drove car without the strip attached and the rattle still present. I took the glovebox out and then reattached it now with a working glovebox light as the plug had been disconnected previously (I thought it was a blown bulb)! Still got a rattle so its the cd headunit next. Got a feeling the rattle is coming from the headunit cage which might be a sod to sort out.
