    Default Air Box Mod...

I did the air box mod about a year & half ago and am just curious to find out if others who did this mod have put the piece of plastic back in and what difference it made if you did.
Does not having the plastic in increase the fuel consumption or is that just my imagination?
    Thoughts.....
    Cheers

Did mine last October on my 2.2 direct. At first I thought there was a slight fuel increase (2 mpg more at most) but it turned out that it was caused by the cold weather. As soon as it got warmer the MPG was the same as before.

Far better throttle response with it removed, and therefore staying removed.

I removed the plastic bit in mine, MPG stayed the same but in conjunction with me fitting a K&N panel filter and doing the mod, pretty much all flat spots have disappeared, car drives better and feels alot more torquier on the motorway...

done this mod twice now first time round with standard vx filter, car smoother but not as nippy up top, second time with a more expensive mehr filter and a service, same difference, car a lot faster with the plastic peice put back in, on both occasions flat spots stayed the same, only plus point was a slightly smoother drive

Did the mod and also removed the small cold air feed in pipe from airbox, just leaving a hole, car performs better, as more air is being sucked in, no heat sink at all, also slight induction noise too, been like this for year now 53+ mpg, its a 05 1.9cdti Sri

I removed mine more or less at the same time I fitted a K&N, improved the lag below the Turbo spin up a little, didn't notice any difference in fuel consumption.
