Default Grinding noise after new tyres fitted

Hi all. Long time no see. Ok so sat morning I had a new set of front tyres fitted to my vec. Drove round all day saturday and did a few miles today and all was fine. Went out tonight for a meal and on the way home we heard an intermittent grinding noise from the front wheels. At one point for a good few seconds it was very loud. Defo sounded like metal grinding metal. Anyhow I had a look, couldn't see anything so took it for another drive and all was fine, no noise. I only looked with a torch as it's dark now but when I looked at the front brake discs it appeared the rear section of the vented discs had a small section missing. It did look like it was part of the casting and not an actual break. I guess what I'm asking is can anyone confirm if the 314 mm discs from Lmf have a slight groove cut from around the inner section of the disc. I hope this makes sense. I should add it's a 1.9 cdti with 314mm discs from Lmf. Any ideas

I think most disc's have the groove you have mentioned.. My thinking is that the shield at the back of the disc may have been bent in some way.. Maybe during the refitting of the wheels does the intermittent sound get faster as you accelerate if so this maybe the cause just an idea?

Ok so here's an update any help on this would be much appreciated. The noise has gone now today (or so my wife says as I haven't driven it today) but this morning before I went work at 6.30 ( it was blooming freezing ha) I took the o/s wheel off just to have a quick look at the discs and I found the disc was rather hard to turn by hand as if the brakes were binding. I put the wheel back on and with the car up in the air I spun the wheel and it did seem to rotate as freely as I'd have thought. Does this appeared to be the breKes binding. Early this year I had a new set of 314 mm discs fitted and a set of caliPers from a 09 reg Saab 9.3. I have also noticed mpg has dropped. What's your ideas guys please. Thanks

Sorry that last post should have read the wheel DIDN'T spin as I'd have thought.

I would suggest you have a brake performance test carried out
This will confirm which brake is at fault
Mine had a crunching noise and turned out to be a seized caliper

I'm taking it back to the tyre Place tomorrow for them to have a look I'm sure they will be able to diagnose the fault. What did you have to do to repair the fault and was it expensive ??? Thanks

if your caliper is sticking on it could be something as easy as the sliders being gunked up stopping the piston sliding in and out or something as bad as piston siezed in the caliper which would basically mean a rebuils or a new one

easiest way to check is drive it for a couple of miles get out and feel the wheel if the wheel is really hot then caliper is sticking
