    Default Where is my SAS?

Can anyone help me locate the steering angle sensor on a 56 plate V6 CDti?
One specialist says it's in the CIM while another says it's on the steering column? Local dealer put the reg in and it shows a sensor seperate to the CIM but the same garage service dept says if it's got ESP fitted (which it has) then it's 'probably' in the CIM!! Huge difference in price between a sensor and a CIM
Fault it bad data coming out of the sensor causing the ESP light to come on.

Are we talking about steering angel sensor.. or the Yaw rate sensor..

as the steering angel sensor is in the CIM and the Yaw rate sensor is part of the ESP system.

but both messaure the steering angel..

Tech 2 gives B1020 - SRS Steering Angle Sensor Signal Circuit Range/Performance. While the wheel is being turned, you can see the display on the Tech 2 showing Data OK then Bad data intermittently.

Have you tried just to recalibrate it.. because that fault is related to the CIM.

then im afraid its a new CIM.. unless a complet reset could solve it.. (dont recommend doing that without a proper tech2 and one that knows how to program it all)

I had Adaptive Forward Lighting on mine which had a slightly different SAS I believe, but it was easily replaceable in side the CIM. Taking it all apart was a bit daunting but the sensor itself would have been a piece of cake to change and I don't think the sensor would require Tech2, just if you replaced the whole CIM unit...

The tricky bit is finding a secondhand CIM with the exact same code as yours...

So the SAS can be swapped within the CIM? I looked on good old Ebay and there are 2 for sale BUT the last digit is one up from mine? Mine is 13204146 and they are 13204147 so callled the local stealers today and asked what the difference might be. They have no record of the part number ending in 7 yet the Ebay listing clearly shows from a photo of the CIM that the number is correct? Answer, it's probably been updated yet they can find the CIM ending in 6 at £355+ VAT My local specialist has ordered in a SAS (part no 93172341) to see if he can find out if and where it might be fitted and if it is wrong then he'll just send it back He took an hour yesterday to find the problem and then said NO CHARGE for what he'd done. An honest garage at last as he said he hadn't fixed the problem!!
Odd thing is that I can drive for 15 miles to work and it won't come on at all, then when I come home and go round a roundabout it's on again? And then when I drive it again after maybe an hour it'll come on almost straight away. Next morning it'll stay off for ages.
When I have a look with Op**m it shows me the fault WAS there but is not present so it must be clearing the fault at various times? I clear all the codes and all is fine until it appears again but once I switch off and look at the codes again, it is NOT PRESENT again?

Just to update, if ESP is fitted then the SAS is in the CIM! It's on the steering rack if ESP isn't fitted Seems it's going to cost around £440 fitted !!
