    Default Emissions Light Help Please

Hi all, a little help / advice please.

Had the emissions light come on on my veccy a couple of weeks ago.
    Car is a 57 plate 1.9 CDTi 150.
The light is the orange (or yellow) engine symbol, bottom right of dash and it's on solid, not flashing.
Car was also very juddery below 2000 rpm but ok above that.
Have taken the EGR valve off and cleaned it - the plunger was stuck fast but the solenoid was free. Also cleaned out the intake.
It now runs great again but the light is still on. Do I need to reset it or will it go away eventually or is something else broke maybe?
It's been a week or so since I "fixed" it so I thought that if it was going to go away on its own then it would have done so by now?
I don't have access to a fault code reader so maybe shooting in the dark a little.

Any help / advice much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave.

You need to get a diagnostic check either Tech2 or the other unmentionable device to see if there are any other faults showing - sounds like you have sorted it and it just needs clearing. Alternatively you could disconnect the battery for a couple of hours and this make clear it - it did on mine. Make sure you have your radio code if applicable as this will need resetting when you reconnect it.

if the light goes out shortly after starting then it's a stored fault. About 20 or so start stops usually clears it.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
Cash is a bit tight right now so am reluctant to take it in to have the codes read - £80 ish for a bit of button pushing is taking the mickey a bit in my book.
Might try disconnecting the battery as suggested and see if that helps.
Anyone tried one of the 20 quid code readers you can buy off ebay?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi All,
Just thought I'd post an update on the exhaust emissions light - was in the garage getting my wifes car MOT'd so asked the guy about this warning light - he said it needs resetting and if I popped it in he would do FoC - nice chap!
Anyway a couple of days later went to take it in, started the car and hey presto no warning light - now I haven't used it for a while as my wife had nicked it and left me her Zaffy, so went and asked her and she said "oh yes, hasn't been on for a few days - forgot to tell you".
So happy days, no more annoying yellow light.
For your info, since I cleaned out the EGR valve it's driven beautifully and covered about 3k miles over a couple of months being used on motorways and driven locally. Not sure why the light suddenly decided to reset itself but hey ho!
A bit of advice the chap in the garage gave me about EGR valves - he thought that them getting bunged up was the result of low engine revs in every day use. He suggested booting it down the motorway every once in a while without using 5th or 6th gear - apparently blows all the c**p out.
Up to whether you try this of course!
    Thanks for the help.
    Regards,
    David
