    Default Subframe corrosion holes

Took my front bumper off at the weekend to check a suspected leeking intercooler on my 2004 120cdti and was horrified to see some rust holes in the front crossbeam of the subframe where the bumper and undertray had trapped water and crud against it. Anyone else had this problem? I've got a MIG welder so I could patch it up OK but unsure about how to protect all the ECUs and sensors on a modernish car. Anyone got experience of this?

You've got me worried now, must now check mine next chance I get!

Hope I don't have to drag my old mig welder out, was regularly used on my previous string of old bangers. Didn't find it very enjoyable.

You raised an interesting point about the protection of the ECU and sensors, perhaps they should be disconnected before welding? Don't know what the pro's do.

That's reason my under tray is in my shed lol

You can buy circuit protectors for when your welding. Not sure how much they are tho.

correct me if im wrong but once you have taken the battery off the ecu etc should be safe as they will not have power going in to them and they will not be earthed so it all should be fine
also might have to have a look at mine as well as mine is same age 2004 and i live at the seaside all that salt in the air
