Yep, all Vectra Cs do. They come on when you put the rear screen demister on.

    thanks!

a bit unusal for them to com on with the rear demister, but I'll give that a go.

I had noticed this morning that the passenger side mirror was fogged over and did not clear when driving and wonder if I actually had heated mirrors

glass may have been replaced at some point, thats the issue i had with mine, one would demist the other wouldnt. popped the one glass off, and there was no element on the back of it, and 2 wires, taped up tucked in behind it. £10 later on ebay for a heated glass, and 30 secs of fitting and job done

Not really. Vauxhall have done it this way for ages.

IIRC, my 91 Cavalier had a separate switch on the mirror control, but my 93 Cavalier came on with the rear demister. After 15 mins it will turn itself back off again.

It's certainly normal,.. even my Alfas did this. The assumption is if your rear window needs de-misting then your mirrors certainly will. Just watch the vapour rise when you turn on the rear de-mister

I had 2 Astra estates, one a J reg, one an M reg, both had a small button & led light on the mirror control switch which was to turn the electric mirror heaters on, ive always found that you get odd lines on the inside of the rear window when you put the rear window heater on when its not needed.

It's just down to the manufacturer's choice.

On the Nissans, Mitsubishis and Subarus I've owned, it's a separate switch. On the Rovers and Vauxhalls, it's combined with the rear screen. I prefer a separate switch too, as often you want to heat the mirrors to clear droplets of rain, whilst the rear window is clean and dry so you don't need that heating.

Not convinced the mirror heaters work on my Vectra anyway - but I'm not bothered enough to take the glass off and find out if the elements are there.

My Mk2 Cavalier was a separate switch, my Mk4 Golf was part of the rear demister circuit, and as such the mirrors can burn out easy if it's left on too long!
