Default Flywheel or something else? advice please

    Hi Guys,

I have noticed every morning when i start the car from cold, it was quite loud, as soon as i pushed the clutch pedal in (in neutral) alot of the noise goes away and then its just the engine noise left.

Its like a clunking/knocking/metal spinning sound, if that makes sense.

Seems like could be a problem developing with the flywheel but im not sure. It only does this when cold - first start up of he day. The rest of the day i dont notice a difference in sound, clutch pressed or not.

This morning I tried pushing the clutch in and out a few times this is what i found:

If i release the pedal fast - I hear the noise more
If i release it slowly (as though im finding biting point) - it doesnt happen.

Could this be the flywheel showing signs of dying or is this somehow normal?

Mine was like that for a long time before the fly wheel welded itself together & then started throwing the vibration into the gearbox...
    A few tips:
Starting the car - always do this with clutch pressed
When the car has first fired in the morning, don't leave it to warm up, drive it straight off even if it's just round the block
When queing in traffic don't sit with clutch in, knock it out of gear.
Mine was knocking for over 40k, when it got worse i had the full monty replaced for £600 cash.

    Thanks for the response.
I have a really bad habbit of sitting at lights/traffic in first gear with clutch pressed. I will stop doing it now.

Also, i do normally drive off after starting it but as i bring it to biting point i hear the spinning again really loud, then i start driving in first gear and all sounds good, then switch to second and again the loud noise appears for a split second, when switching to third its not noticeable and after that for the rest of the day its not noticeable either.

Will this be picked up in MOT do you think? as its due one this weekend

MOT won't pick up on it tbh... although if the garage are any good they will diagnose if they hear the knocking

Right, well im gunna gove it to Vauxhall for a service next week but we all know how good they are at diagnosing stuff so it probably wont be picked up.

Does it defo sound like the Flywheel then? cant be anything else no?

Somebody told me the Flywheels are very expensive due to bieng dual mass or something and will cost 1k to replace, that correct or was he on a Mr T vibe with his jibber jabber?
