    Default Stereo conversion, whats needed

    Hi all,

Seen a few threads but thought i'd ask a more general question.
I now have a 04 Vectra SRi 1.9 CDTI with a CDR2005 stereo. Not too keen on these stereo's and prefer the CD30 style which was in my old 54 2.2 SRi.
If I wanted to convert from a CDR2005 to a CD30 what would I need?

    CD30 Stereo with married display
    Wiper stalk?
    Steering Wheel?

Does that cover it or are there darker depths and some rewiring?

    Cheers

You might have a problem because your 04 model is probably half-canbus (given it's got a non-canbus CDR2005 radio), and the CD30 is a full-canbus radio. So there might be more to it that just swapping the radio, steering wheel etc. if the CD30 requires canbus to communicate with the steering wheel controls and other systems.

It might work out significantly easier to fit a Sony/Kenwood/Panasonic/JVC etc which will interface happily to your half-canbus steering wheel controls with the appropriate adapter kit.

    If it helps,
I have fitted a CD70, Graphic display (2005 Full CAN set-up) into a non CAN Cavalier... and to do this, I used Half CAN (2003 - 53 plate) CIM and BCM modules.
    It works perfectly.

In my opinion you will need to do the following..

Look at BigMac's TID to GID conversion thread (to fit 32 pin display connector.)
Then you need to rewire this per my Install CD70 How 2.

Then you will need to convert from ISO to Quadlock connector on your head-unit. I used an SOT lead, in my case an ISO2CAR lead... £16 all in from e-bay.

If you have climate control, then I have heard that you may need to get a Full CAN control panel for this.

Finally, it is quite easy to convert from buttons to scrollers on the steering wheel,

and then reprogram the CIM to tell it that you now have scrollers..

That SHOULD be pretty much it

Also needed is a full canbus steering wheel and airbag , as the half canbus ones are a different size and shape , I completed this modifcation about 18 months ago on my old 52 plate vectra witha a cdc40.

CIM (I can think of something quite inappropriate for that!)

Hmm, this is more likely pre- and post facelift where the difference lies.

I have a full CAN (2005) pre-facelift Vectra, and the half CAN buttons fit, but the Facelift scrollers dont - so I fitted pre-facelift scrollers.

However it does depend upon which wheel you have fitted.
(Ours is a 4 spoke item)
