v6 cdti advice

Hi folks

Looking for a bit of help here.

Currently hunting a new car and have tested a variety of cars, had a go in a v6 cdti yesterday and was blown away with the power and refinement.

What are these units like for reliability? Also whats the servicing costs/frequency? Tyres are about ninety quid a corner, how long can i expect to get from them? Ive read what Vauxhall says the mpg is, what can i realistically expect. My daily commute is 20 miles each way of a-road, typically cruising about 60-70.

Reliability: I dont hear too much going wrong with them on here, although some more mechanically minded people may be able to help out here.
Servicing: unfortunalty I belive they are the most expensive engine to service as the engine is Isuzu, so parts are dealer about £200-£250 service, depending on whatever garages want the charge. Think the interval is 20K, or whenever your car tells you!
Tyres: not really dependant on the engine size but more on the model, SRi's have 17s whereas other models have 16s. Probably get 16K miles from a front set in an SRi.
MPG: in mine I get 38mpg on a run and 32 round town.

Just to add to what Andy has said,

The service costs are horriffic.. £30 just for the oil filter..thats not a oil change.. just the filter!

You may be being optimistic with £90 each for tyres..the v6 CDTi has the higher load rating tyres and Mark- the-cabby has found a cheap place for quality tyres at £140 each..all are fitted with at least 17's..

otherwise it's a bomb proof choice....

Extra load tyres I know its a heavy engine but still..... mine had 4 tyres fitted at a vx garage 215/50/17 w reated but they are not extra load. I thought these were if you run 18's or 19's?
Fuel, drive slowly and carefully expect 40mpg round town as I have found, On a long run, steady 70 -80ish about 37 mpg. Thats if you can believe the fuel computer.....

Servicing I was told by my local dealer about £160 and £250 for the two services.

Without the CRD2 box I used to get 38 - 44 mpg. That's a mix of A road, dual carriage way & in town. Usually nearer to 38 than 44!

Servicing, I haven't had one yet as I've only had the car since May. But the service interval is 2 years or 30,000 miles with the eco flex servicing, so £200 - £250 every other year isn't that bad IMO.

Tyres (I've been looking round locally for quotes as I need to replace my front 2 soon) £115 fitted for the Goodyears 215/50/17s that Vxl fit, or £100 for Khumos. You can go cheaper but probably not advisable to.

I bought a 2004 V6 CDTi a few months back, after doing my research on here.

Suffice to say that after a few months of ownership, I am chuffed to bits with the car and havent looked back since. Cant fault it.

My advice is go and test drive one, but I reckon you wont go far wrong with the 3.0!!!.

Should have said, not had any issues with the car as far as reliability is concerened. I've been well pleased with it, and I think I made the right choice in going for the V6.

the v6 cdti is generaly very reliable,never heard of many probs,but are prone to over heat in saabs but not in the vectra,for a cheaper oil filter and sticking to oe use an oil filter from the v6cdti saab,it is a third of the price and is the same(but a different part no),it does come in handy working for a vauxhall and saab dealer

Yeah I agree with what is generally being said. About 37MPG pre CRD2 box. Pretty good performance although not masses above the 2.2 SRI, which I had expected. I've had tyres. Nothing flash, cost me just over £70 a corner. Servicing at a non Vauxhall dealer was £160.


Have to say that fitting the CRD2 box did blow the economy and performance figures away!! Get 45+MPG now regardless of how I drive it and believe me I drive it hard with the new found boost and pickup the box produces!!

Not sure if that it a true reading as my V6 CDTI with the CRD2 box I get 28mpg around town and high 30's motorway. Without the box its more.
