Default What is this pipe coming off throttle body & why is it expanding

    Hi all,

Can someone tell me what this pipe is, it's the one shown in the picture below to the right of the engine, between battery. It's about 2" across.

The reason I want to know is because it expands when I put my foot on the gas, is this normal??

When you rev your engine air is forced into the inlet manifold by the turbo. Its under highpressure so thats why the pipe expands. its perfectly normal to expand so theres nothing to worry about.

If it expands, does that mean some of the boost is lost trying to deform the pipe?
Just thinking along the same lines as rubber brake pipes vs braided hoses.

Can you get a silicon pipe to replace this?

it expands because its just under alot of pressure.

I replaced my old hose because it had split. I thought i'd make my own by buying some proper metal tubing and silicone joiners (see my signature) but the downside was that the pressure was on the small pieces of silicone and I kept blowing the pipe off even with decent T-Bolts. In the end I went for a full silicone replacement so the pressure was evenly spread throughout the hose. It balloons a bit more than the rubber ones but its doing its job and it hasnt be blown off!

What I find more amazing is the fact you can see it from the drivers seat!
