    Default Towbar electrics

I have fitted a towbar but not done the electrics yet. Have read about using the rear number plate lights for the tail lights etc. (using the relay of course) is there anyway of using the feeds from the existing socket where the genuine electrics just plug in??? Would be a lot easier to either solder or use crimped connectors Does anyone have a pin diagram showing what pin does what???

For the sake of all the hassle, just buy the loom from the dealers, plug and play, simples!

Yes like 200£ on a new rear loom for the car or 500£ for a new REC when something goes wrong with your wiring...

you cant use center breaklight.. but your best option is at the REC where all wires are plugged into.

Unless you already have the Smartcom (or similar) relay module that you want to use, it does make sense to use the Vauxhall loom which includes all the isolation circuitry.

Otherwise, wire into the light clusters as you would any other car, and run a positive from the battery to the relay box. If you plug trailer lights directly in parallel with the existing lights, you might find 'blown bulb' warnings come up on the BC because the resistance is wrong.

I already have the module. It came with the towbar. I read a thread on here saying you couldn't use the normal feed from the brake and tail lights as it used a single circuit (reduced voltage for tail lights) one member used the number plate lights and centre brake light as they were separate. If I knew what colour these wires were and where they run in the car other than in the tailgate it would save me a lot of time tracing them

Ah yes - the Vectra does cunning things with it's tail lights. I forgot about that

You could always take a feed from the brake switch itself if you can't get it to work from the centre brake light. All the wires you need will be available at the REC. Though I don't have a diagram of which ones!
