Default loss of turbo when accelerating in high gear

    Hi,

Hopefully someone can help as I've used the search function and my question doesnt appear to be answered (not so I would understand anyway)

What is happening only happens in the cruise, usually motorways as I do a lot of motorway miles. I'm doing 50mph in 5th (roadworks with average speed camera) and come to gently accelerate away, engine doesnt appear to be struggling, around about 2000RPM, there is a thump, the spanner light comes on and I can only describe it as I've lost the turbo.

Pull onto hard shoulder, switch off, switch back on, spanner light off, turbo back and car runs normally, and its really baffling me as to why this should happen..........any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

First off check all of the vacuum pipes for splits and leaks. If everything is ok on that side. Then I would say clean the egr valve, Trottle body, boost sensor and TPS. I think the throttle body and tps could be the trouble.

Thanks for the suggestions, a bit more info which will hopefully confirm your diagnosis....
This only happens in 5th between 50 and 60 mph. If I'm doing 50 and drop into 4th and pull away it doesnt replicate the fault, only in 5th between this speed range

Is this consistent with your thoughts?

    Thanks again

It seems to happen to the DTIs. I've had this a few times. I ws bypassing it by dropping it a gear to accelerate rather than strain the engine accelerating in 5th. it only happened on inclines.

As the guys said check all your vacuum pipes. If all okay you may need to adjust the turbo actuator rod to increase or de-crease when the turbo kicks in depending on weather you're underboosting or over boosting.

I bet if you read the error codes it'll be:

P0234 - Boost Pressure Control Circuit Negative Deviation
    (5A) - Not present

It could also be a solenoid issue which solved my problem. read the 10th post down on THIS THREAD. It describes the same issue you are having.
