Default Cruise contol cancels its self when indicating left.

    Evening all.

Ok im pretty sure I havent lost my marbles yet,

Today going down the local motorway for 30 mins or so with cruise controll on I indicated left and it canceled itself, Thinking I was going crazy but it back on but after about half a second it cut off again.

Hit the brake pedal twice and put cruise control back on and it was fine, Indicated left and back to square one.

Parked up for several hours on the way home same problem.

Any ideas? hadnt touch the brake or clutch pedals and indicating right it stays on.

Pull the indicator/CC switch out and clean the contacts at the end and try again.

The fact that it only happens when you indicate left would rule out the CIM.

    I sorted mine tonight

Wrapped some celotape on the stalk just above the bottom connectors , been up and down the mway, indicating , etc no issues at all, nice cheap fix till i get my CIM sorted

    Cheers guys

is it a full coweling off job or easier than that, I have already eyed up the 2 screw covers behind the steering wheel.

as a precaution also took out fuses 17 and 26 to reset the cim incase it was just being silly and its a bit dark to be taking the car appart at the moment.

I'm pretty sure there's a how2 on this, but you don't just pull it out, you'll most likely break it. What you do is unclip & pull back the rubber bellows where the stalk goes into the cowling. On the lower or upper side of the revealed part of the stalk (can't remember which side) is a long groove, this is where you slide a straightened paper clip until it stops. Apply a little more pressure to the paper clip & gently pull the stalk out of the steering column. No point in struggling for the sake of a bent paper clip!

I did the cleaning part a couple of times, which temporarily solved my similar problem to yours, but the 2nd time i also bent up the contacts within the steering column & it seems to have solved the problem. Just be VERY careful you don't bend them too much, they are VERY thin & could break easily

just to add, yanking it out worked for me 2 times without a problem, 3rd time i broke the catch which holds it in place, so gotta strip the cim out and replace a broken bit inside tomorrow...
