Hi guys looking at giving my gearbox a make over as its a bit clunky, im experiencing clunky gear changes especially from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd you can hear it engage and is also not smooth if i do a fast change say from 1st to 2nd there is a jerky movement and a thud even if driving slowly and reserved its jerky and quite hard to ingauge sometimes is there a better gearbox i can upgrade too as im looking at replacing the clutch, thrust bearing, dual mass fly wheel and release spring i cant remember the gearbox being this clunky on my old 2003 1.8 sxi

when you get the clutch etc done you can have the gear oil changed and reduced to the correct amount and this will make a difference in itself..i think some guys had issues and sorted them be doing something to the gear stick mechanism..

you have the F40 gearbox and have no other options, its one of best, albiet a little clunky for some.

Tbh I think the f40 is the worst part of the Vec. So notchy and clunky never owned a car with a worst gear box. In fact both of my Siggy's have been the same. There was nothing wrong with either just very notchy.

My car is booked in end of the month at vauxhall for mot and service I'm gonna mention it when I take it. Might ask for a good gearbox oil change see if that makes a difference if it does I'll let you know as for the gearbox overhaul I'll give feedback on this aswell because I really believe if I change these parts it will be alot better but looking at doing this early next year while I save
