grinding rubbing noise

On my way home from work i noticed there was a grinding/rubbing sort of noise coming from what sound like my drivers wheel

only had the pads done a few months back and the noise is still there when applying light or heavy pressure to the brake pedal

could it be the bearing

whats the way to tell if a bearing is on its way out

sorted it was the back wheel a piece of metal had lodged between the disc and the plate at the back some how lol

My Vectra developed a nasty grinding noise from the nearside front wheel a couple of days ago, so I naturally feared the worst, ie wheel bearing/discs etc. It turned out to be a small stone stuck between the heat shield and disc, which fell out when I prised the heat shield away from the disc with a screwdriver.
