clicking gearknob

anyone ever had this problem? 2003 reverse top left. the knob will move about 1mm downwards, so nearly everytime you change clear it clicks lol
i have taken the chrome insert off, and looks like i can see the top of the rod, however this also moves down with the knob, so what could the problem be?

My knob clicked when I pressed it .... it then came off in my hand ..... I went to the dealers and they glued it back on for free

is the metal circular thing you can see under the chrome insert, the shaft of the gearstick, or is that just part of the knob?

once it starts clicking it is only a matter of time before it comes off in your hand, give it a whack with a rubber mallet or glue it

hmmm, not good, better get on with it then lol, do they just pull straight off?

Mine did this for a few months then just flew off into the passenger and under the seat, just glue it back on but be sure to put it on straight.
