Possible electrical fault...

Hi,

I have a 2008 Vauxhall Vectra SRI that is causing me issues!

It all started Monday evening when "safeguard" appeared on the screen. Not knowing what it was I parked the car up overnight and googled it.

When i went to start the car Tuesday morning it would not turn over, after an hour of prodding and poking I called GreenFlag to come and save the day! This did not happen.

The mechanic swaped over fuses all over the place and eventually the car started, however, i now have my brake lights stuck on constantly, the engine management (exhaust emmitions ?) light is on constantly and there is a lack of power when driven.

This all seemed to have stemed from a blown fuse but I can not seem to rectify it.

Anyone got a few minutes to reply with any solutions, Id be very grateful!

I'd point to the CIM for this sort of fault every time. Sadly, not a rare thing to go on a Vec C.

Did Greenflag plug the computer in? Have you got their report on what was wrong? I'd expect them to mention some odd readings from the diagnostic if the CIM was on it's way out.

In this instance, your engine management light is unlikely to be related to emissions. Most likely a major failure of ECU and related systems sadly.

Maybe a local member with a Tech2 or Op-com could help you out. If you were in Essex I'd give you a hand myself...

I am afraid i know nothing about cars, what is a CIM?

Green Flag did not plug anything in, just moved all the fuses around!

The CIM is one of the computers on the Vectra - this one is behind the steering wheel and can lead to all sorts of odd faults when it's knackered. Try and get the car to a good garage with proper diagnostic equipment. The only one I can think of down your way is Regal Autosport in Southampton. From there you'll have a bit more to go on.

pull out fuse 17 on the passenger side fuse box ( end of the dash) leave it out a minute or 3 then put it back in see if that fixes it.

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses, all sorted now and back up and running.......but......

My fuel consumption seems to have thought that I won the euromillions! All of a sudden i am noticing the miles drop, quickly!

I drove 6 miles nad the range counted 30! I was driving steady too....

Any suggestions? I have a 400 mile trip to do Tuesday next week and need to see if it is a fault with the car or the trip!
