    Default DMF Advice & Reassurance

Our Veccy has recently developed 2 oddities.

The car is a 1.9 CDTi, 120 bhp, F40 gearbox and Z19DT engine.

The first, I noticed, was an engine judder around the 60/70mph. I initially thought it was wheel balancing or alignments.
The second issue is strong/violent judder when the car is switched off, this is accompanied with a metallic knocking noise.

We took the car to a friendly garage who did a few manual checks and discovered the second issue was remedied if the clutch was depressed when switching the engine off.

They said the DMF was at fault. They also said that it may last for a further 10, 20 or 30k miles etc....so not to worry about it.

    Well, I'm worrying.

From the many threads about the DMF around the forum, I have discovered that I should replace the DMF & the Clutch at the same time.

The advice and assurance I need is confirmation that the following is all that is required:

Clutch Cover, Clutch Drive Plate, Hydraulic CSC Cylinder and the DMF.

This 'kit' is new and priced @ £459.95

Assuming my garage charges the usual labour rate I should be able to get the whole job done for about £600 / £650 which is quite good I think.

    Thanks for your time.

Sounds like the DMF is on the way to heaven right enough, the price is good also for the entire assembly, I have a niggling thought that one make is better than the other but can never recall which, it was posted on here and perhaps someone will remember and refresh the memory,,,,

@ Derek Mc - Thank you.

I havn't read anything about different manufactures on the threads here or I just didn't notice them discussion. This kit is termed as ".....A LuK OE MATCHING QUALITY PART - EXACTLY THE SAME AS WHAT WAS FITTED DURING THE VEHICLE'S ORIGINAL MANUFACTURE....." I don't know if that's good or not.

    @ dh.dti

They'll flush and use new. That's if the mechanics wish to continue frequenting our Pub. LOL.

I know of two makes the LUK and Sach's. It may be urban legend but one is supposed to be better than the other, but both are OEM quality.

As for fluid that is always a great idea just make sure they don't over fill as it causes a real baulky shift!

^ Ah, good advise. You wouldn't happen to know the exact fill volume required? Memory serves that VX downgraded the amount to 2.4L.

    Well, this is rather embarrassing.

I accept that garages/mechanics can make mistakes occasionally but this is a clanger.

It turns out that the issue with my vehicle was all down to a loose connector on either the Air Box, EGR, Throttle Body or Boost Sensor. Having re-seated them correctly, the issue is now gone.

I hope the Returns Policy on the DMF & Clutch is decent.
