Default Air box mod in hot weather

My airbox has been modified with the usual panel filter and top part of the tube taken off. Also there are some sections cut out around the bottom half of the box for even better air intake.......sounds fantastic when driving!

Anyway the past couple of weeks ive noticed the cars performance has been a bit up and down, some days its pooo off a shovel and some days its just not quite as good, also a quite laggy untill it gets upto about 50mph then she flies!!!

There is a pattern to the poor performance and thats when the weather is hot(like the past couple of weeks) the car doesnt like it but as soon as it cools down i.e.early morning and late evening the car is running like a rocket.

There is nothing wrong with the car as ive checked over everything so is there a chance that the cut out sections on the bottom half of the air box is sucking in hot air from the engine and hindering the cars performance a bit? it does get mighty hot down in the engine bay and its being sucked into the air filter.

When the car is under performing it seems to get alot better the faster i got..Cooler airflow at higher speeds?

I remember on one of my old cars i brought one of the big cone filters and although it sounded great the performance was rubbish because it was just drawing hot air into it.

    What do you think guys?

you could try either sealing the cut out up or trying to add a pipe into the cut out and running it to the grill

the sections that are cut out are too big to seal up so i might just get another box off ebay

Do you think that there is some chance that the engine heat is effecting the performance espcially at lower speeds(round town) and hot weather?

Definatly getting lag and flatspot in this hot weater

I found that the air intake temp was 31 to 35 Degrees C last week, so I am also thinking of re-fitting the air intake that goes to the front of the car.
