    Default mot faiure

took the car for mot today, failed on front wheel bearing,
the wording was ROUGH WHEN ROTATED,
i phoned vx and quoted £300.00 they have to replace the bearing complete with the hub, it comes complete.
the garage where i had the mot £230.00 , not genuine parts, quinton hazel parts

does this seem like a far price,

It's not a particularly hard job to do, If you're handy with the tools i'd give it a bash yourself, there may even be a how to on here somewhere

No problem if you can do it yourself. Not a hard job, just find yourself a nice warm dry day unless you're undercover .

While I still had my 06 Vec CDTi, mine became rough and noisy (but no detectable play) earlier this year and I did a DIY change. With these hubs, rough & noisy running comes long before 'old fashioned' hand detectable play. Cost of OEM hub assembly off e-bay less than £100, fitting took about 4 hrs & I did a 'How To', see here.

Lots of heavy metal to move out of way but easy enough on a driveway.

As I no longer have the Vec, I've now 'lost' the detailed paperwork for the hub purchase with its sale but I'll try and find the e-bay supplier and link to it.

This was the one I purchased. As yours is a later version (2006, same as mine) it'll be the same one you need.

There are cheaper to be had but this is made by FAG, the same as fitted OEM.
