Default Not the Vectra but the wife's Astra..

?Yesterday the wifes mk 3 1995n astra lost all its water and it overheated,at first i thought !Water pump, but upon futher inspection it all points to the Head Gasket, with evidence of mayo under oil filler cap,and also on the end of dip stick,?would everyone agree on this.
?And has anyone renewed a Head Gasket on a mk 3 Astra,it is an old motor but it gets through the mot every year, and the body work is good and with only 58000 on the clock from new,it is worth doing the job inmo...?can anyone help

simple enough job depending on what engine is in it i do know from experience that the 1.6 8valve engines develop mayo under the oil filler cap even when the head gasket has not blown ,more if used on short stop, start journeys may be worth getting a compresion test done just in case it is not the head gasket

If it overheated and lost all it's water, plus you have mayo it's 99.5% head gasket..

Which engine is it ? pretty straight forward, just the bigger the engine the more expensive it will be for cambelt, and gaskets etc, and you will need some ok tools and a torque wrench. It's worth doing the water pump while you're there as well, and er, watch out/expect/be careful with the exhaust studs as the nut will have a habit of taking the stud with it, and it's very easy to cross thread it in the soft head
