    Default Laptop problem

Hi Guys, my ex has just dropped her mums laptop off for me to have a look at fixing. When it starts up a blue screen appears saying...

    STOP:c0000135 (unable to locate component)
This application has failed to start because winsrv was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

It's quite an old cheap laptop ADVENT. I don't want to spend ages messing with it as I'm not really bothered if it works or not lol, but any ideas if it's an easy job to sort would be appreciated thanks.

Could be as simple as you've knocked a stick of ram out of it's socket Andy. Try re-seating the memory, also schedule a full disk check and reboot it and let it run it incase any damage has been done to the disk.

Has any new hardware been installed?
My first instict sounds like a RAM problem. How many sticks of RAM doesnt it have? Remove them and then test one stick at a time.

    Blue screen of death!!
Try repair (not reboot) the system.
Or either enter in safe mode(usually f8 on start-up) manually install updates and remove any program (tv media) which might have caused the crash.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885523/en-us will help.

    Hope it helps.

If you can't gain access through safe mode I'd imagine that rebooting your OS will solve it but if you do reboot then make sure to make the computer secure asap (updates etc).
Sorry I cant be of more help.

Excuse my ignorance, but how do I reboot the OS?
