Default Hatchback struts, help please guys !

I'm getting a longer list of jobs for my vectra and it's time I started to sort it out !

The other day the tailgate dropped down and nearly hit my wife on the back of the head. Now, although this might knock some sense into her I think it's time to change the struts because they have been playing up for a couple of weeks. This morning the tailgate wouldn't stay open which is a right pain.

They look easy to change, it looks like there is a "flap" at each end which opens ? has anyone changed them on their veccy

    TIA
    Si

I've always thought that changing either the Boot or Bonnet Lifters was a little but dangerous, but loads of people have changed them in the past.

I'm sure someone will be along with some tips shortly

yeah, i've being trying to think of a safe method. So far all I can think of is to ask a mate to hold the tailgate open while I change one at a time.

I've decided to book it in to have the rear shocks changed so maybe i'll have them do the hatch struts at the same time.

It's always nice to do a job yourself and save the labour cost though eh !!

If you remove the parcel shelf, get in the boot then close it behind you, no risk of it falling!

I was thinking more of the lifter fully extending once you try and disconnect it. I'm sure there's a safe way of doing it though

so basically when the boot is fully opened the lifters are at their fullest extent; is that right dude?

I was always worried about them extending any further or acting like missiles. Looks like my worries are unfounded then?
