computer hell

Dont you just love/hate computers......my daughter got an Ipod nano with her birthday money....full of excitement we rushes home to get it working etc.... we downloaded itunes....and connects the ipod via the usb....only to get a message saying we need faster usb speed.... so off to pc world, where I find out that we need a usb 2.0 pci card...simple enough.....fitted it into a pci slot ok..and thats about it...it wouldnt install for all the tea in china, and b0ll0xed up the pc to boot...... ..3 days spent pi55ing about trying to install drivers, root hubs, and enhanced controllers....not to mention lots of shouting, swearing-(lots of that..!!) arguments, near divorce, etc....not been able to visit my favorite forum....

Its still not installed...in fact I took the parts back to pc world....

my daughter will have to use her mates pc til we get one that dosent run on coal.....ha ha.....

i had the exact same problem with my nano, tried everything. in the end i just reformatted the pc and it worked first time. bit of a pain though having to reinstall all your software, but at least i got it working in the end.

i had the exact same problem with my nano, tried everything. in the end i just reformatted the pc and it worked first time. bit of a pain though having to reinstall all your software, but at least i got it working in the end.

It crossed my mind to do this...........5 seconds later it was gone........

lol, yeah i know its always the last thing you want to do, but it was the only thing left i had to try, i tried resetting the ipod, uninstalling and reinstalled the usb drivers, even tried different cards, but nothing worked. i even reloaded different software on to the ipod in case it was that, but still nothing. in the end i bit the bullet and reformatted the system. after doing all that, i hardly use the thing now. Bl00dy typical.

USB2 controllers are a bit finnicky. Have you got service pack one on your machine (guessing you run XP)?

yep, service pack 1 installed....IMO the bios settings or the motherboard needed upgrading, the computer recognised the hardware but kept saying it was unable to install it correctly...(error code 10)..there was a conflict some where but after 3 days I lost patience and heart, admitting defeat I took the card out.

We are getting my boy a laptop in the next couple of weeks so we`ll just use that......

strange there just plug and play if u run xp ive had no probs with mine just put it in slot turned on and hey presto
