Default Sump Guard broken ... mega expensive !!

hi all, i hit a fox the other night and it damaged the plastic engine shield underneath and ripped what looks like a fabric gasket between it and the chassis rails. I took off wht was damaged so it doesnt catch / fall off etc and called Vauxhall to order a new one .... the bill ws £418 plus vat !!!!!!! The guy is positive its the right part ...seems massivley overpriced for what is effectively a piece of hard plastic ...aluminuim sump guads are cheaper than this !!

Hs anyone ever replaced this..would you at that price !!?

Its not a sump guard, its just there for the eu drive by noise regulations. Take it off and bin it, the petrols don't have it at all.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

What type of Vectra is it?
    Your profile shows a 1992 2.2 DTI

I suffered the same issue occured with I hit a fox a week after receiving my car
The car was repaired and I pointed out the panel had not been replaced
The first one was the wrong size and shape
The correct one is in three parts and I too believe they were shocked how expensive it was
No cost to me as it processed as a non-fault claim (on renewal came through as £1100 cost - new front bumper, nearside fog lamp and tray)

No, hence why I asked to confirm the vehicle in your profile

When mine was damaged and to be replaced under insurance the repair agent simply went had the local dealership delivery "Vectra C tray"
It was obvious it wouldn't fit when it arrived
They had to return it and advised the engine was a 3.0 V6 CDTI, to which I overheard "There is no way that will fit on that car, plus there is complete kit needs to be included"

I'm assuming that mine was already broken and had been ziptied back on but the wife pulled off quite fast from Sainsburys carpark into busy traffic just now and the car started banging, not in time to the wheels going round or the revs.
Got out checked all wheels brakes etc, luckily a guy offered me his torch and I found the front and one side of the sump guard hanging off.

Good job I was in the car as I would have accused her of rallying it. I bought some zipties yesterday just by chance so guess what I'm going to fix it with unless anyone has a spare one.

Update: I undid the remaining three screws and took the undertray off. There are supposed to be two wide pieces of foam up either side and two pieces of thin metal heatshield in the centre.
Whoever had the car before me had not only broken it but had jammed the foam, folded and bent up heatshields and an eight by 4 inch piece broken off the front of the tray back in between the sump and undertray and ziptied it back to the car.

The banging noise it made last night sounded very expensive indeed but chucking all the bits in the shed has not only cured that noise but also got rid of the rattles that I was getting at around 70mph all week.

Anyone who says you can live without it has probably never owned a mk2 or 3 Escort or or a mk1 Cavalier as it was quite common to bang the sump and lose all the oil on those cars. I will either get another one when I'm feeling flush or fix this one.
