That's rare, are you sure about that?
Some networks are poor, but most dongles can roam to other networks as I find with my 3 dongle compared to my mobile phone; no signal on phone but strong signal on dongle
Dumbarton seems to be one such place

Looks like locals have been complaining here in Cumbernauld too
I noticed one side of my house had poor mobile phone reception, but a new mast was installed last month and went live last week, seemed to be a gap next to the ASDA store!

i live way out in the stick

dont get me wrong a very faint signal can be got right at the window but apart from sending a txt or reciveing is about its limit. i have considered one of these signal booster things that goes on the side of ya house. but looking at apic is as far as that idea has got lol.

That's no excuse, as most of Scotland now has at least one network coverage in the area
Most likely it will be Vodafone
As above, try a dongle when looking at property and see which networks are available and their strength
I've been in some really remote areas, no mobile phone signal yet the dongle still works as it swaps from 3 to Vodafone

If you have a specific date for entry into the property then BT should be able to attend the day after entry and install / setup your service
I have done this numerous times and never had any issue
Equally, on my current property this was processed through TeleWest (now Virgin Media) and they even agreed to attend on the handover day

However refering to your original post I don't see why there would be a gap between setup and activation, I've never had that issue
There is however often a 7 to 10 day delay on setting up the broadband on the phone line, not much you can do about that
