    Default Feathered tyres - advice

Just had the MOT done last week. The vehicle report states the rear tyres are feathered. Girls behind the counter didn't know what this was and as it was lunch time so no-one else seemed to care either (great Vx service).

My question is, what causes this?
It's on the rear tyres, on the inside edge.

Is this a tracking issue, or a suspension fault?

The tyres are Nexen N3000 and have directional tread.

I had a 4 wheel alignment done 2 years ago, so might get this done again.

I'd look at rear bushes and dampers.

    Thanks

I'd imagine if the dampers were shot, then I'd get flat spots on the tyres. This is more like the tread is raised on the inside edge. Outside edge OK.
I assume the signums have some camber on the rears.

Are the bushes easy to replace?

Look at the rear "banana arms", rear control arms. A common failing point.

Thanks for all that. I'll have to have a look later.

Funny thing is, it passed the MOT, only required the OSF drop link!

Feathering is down to wheel alignment. So could be down to worn upper or lower arms

Yep, had the upper arms advised on my MOT last week. The tester was knowledeable on the Vectras and said you can't feel the play in the upper arms when it's off the ground, you gotta give the top of the wheel a push and pull with the weight on it to feel it.

    Sounds like that's my problem.
I'm half annoyed that the vx garage didn't spot this at the mot. Although if they did i'd have to pay their going rate and not have much time or choice. Cup half full and half empty.
