Yes its about the easiest one on the Vec range to change due to where it is situated, it is a bit more expensive though. 4 bolts, 1 hose and the temp sender connector IIRC.

This is the one you need for your. Unfortunately the stat itself is not available on its own for the Z18XER, you need to buy the whole unit.

sorry to jump in but not really. Mine looks to be on the way out. How would one go about fitting one of these?

What he said. Plus a couple of bottles of long life coolant for the change. 20, 30 min job. Done mine 3 weeks ago, Z18 XER also, 80 quid from stealers.

Thread resurrection alert.Vauxhall want over £100 for a stat that includes the plastic housing. Can i confirm i can replace just the 'thermostat metal part' at a much more reasonable £70 from euro car parts as it looks like that part pops out??http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Va...89e79c&000325I see the how2 is for the 18XE NOT the 18XER

i got ours for £72 from vauxhall for the full housing, i dont think the vvti one you can buy just the stat on its own,
as for changing it, it is very easy, just be careful not to overtighten the 4 bolts that fix the metal stat to the plastic type piece of the engine

Sorry could u just explain further. You got the whole plastic unit from vauxhall and replaced the whole lot, it looks difficult as there is a metal pipe accross the front of it, or is that not connected?

no the black plastic thing stays where it is, its only the metal housing that you have shown in the link that you change. there is 4 bolts that fix it in place.

there is a how2 on here somewhere that i followed for doing the vvti thermostat, but im on my phone at the moment, so cant do a link
