    Smile Car Abuse Poll...

Ok, so in your opinion how do cars fair better over a long term ownership....

Have you ever had a high mileage car over its lifetime, did it cause any major problems or has it faired well.

What style of driving got it through its high mileage?

    - Taxi driving
    - Company Cars
    - Private Ownership but long period

    etc

Im going back to my old ways with this car and keeping it a long time like 8-9 yrs, it will be serviced every year & thats it after all it's a tool it's to be used not pampered.

A mix of driving some motorway which is good to blast out the cobwebs and moisture from the exhaust & it also gets the seats down to go to B&Q with sand cement and slabs when required not poncing about been waxed and wiped like some.

Mix driving, dual carriage ways and town runs, serviced every 6000 miles. Engine warmed up for 20 mins or 10 miles before taking it above 3000 rpm. Use full throttle at least once a day! That's how I do mine, everyone differs.

My last car was the highest mileage car ive owned, 1996 Honda Accord. 157k when it was scrapped. It was only scrapped due to the bodywork falling fowl to the dreaded tin rot and not really being worth repairing. The engine was in pristine condition and never used any oil at all between oil and filter changes. I gave up driving like id stole it many many years ago.

That's always been my theory as well. Personally I hate these 20K service intervals. For as long as I can remember I have always done oil and filter changes every 6 months, regardless of mileage, thats never been any more than 10K and is around every 4k these days.

service when needed never drive it hard when its cold drive normal most of the time but i think a car should have a good hard thrash every so often to blow the cobwebs out also only high milage car ive owned was a 323bmw but i treated it the same as any other car (well maybe a little more badly than others as i loved spinning the wheels on the bm as it was rear wheel drive)
